What Are Implant Dentures?

An implant denture consists of a full arch of artificial teeth mounted on a sturdy base and titanium dental implants surgically placed in the jaw to provide a secure hold and optimal chewing power. This allows patients to enjoy many foods that are difficult to chew with traditional dentures while also eliminating the possibility of their appliances sliding out of place during speech. Implant dentures also stimulate the jawbone, which can prevent or even reverse the process of bone loss and allow the appliances to last much longer. Implant dentures come in one of two varieties.
Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Fixed implant dentures are designed to be removed only by qualified dentists. These devices are mounted on four to six dental implants for a superior hold, and they require strong jawbones to be placed.
Removable Implant Dentures

Removable implant dentures are connected to two to five dental implants with clips or ball sockets, which allows the patient to remove them for daily cleaning.
The Implant Denture Process

We partner with local specialists to provide our patients with the most excellent implant dentures possible. The process of receiving them includes four steps:
- Consultation: At our office, Dr. Shroff will carefully evaluate your mouth to determine your candidacy for dental implants. If you’re not ready yet, you may be able to receive them later after undergoing periodontal therapy or bone grafts.
- Surgery: After you are cleared for the treatment, you’ll see your oral surgeon to receive your implants. They’ll numb your mouth with a local anesthetic before inserting titanium posts at strategic points in your jawbone.
- Abutments: After your implants and jawbone have fused through the process of osseointegration, you’ll receive abutment pieces that allow lifelike restorations to be anchored in your mouth.
- Restoration: After you have recovered from abutment placement, you’ll come back to our office to have your customized dentures mounted on your implants.
Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Most adults in fair oral and overall health can be excellent candidates for implant dentures. During your consultation, Dr. Shroff will evaluate your mouth and discuss your needs and preferences for the treatment. You’ll need to be healthy enough to safely receive minor surgery, and you may need to receive periodontal therapy to clear up gum disease or bone grafts to reinforce your jaws before your implants can be placed. We’ll be happy to perform gum disease treatments in our office or help you schedule your consultation for bone grafts.
